One more interesting find for the art appreciating crowd and the collectors of Asian art alike, appeared briefly to be admired at Christie’s action house and was sold for a record for Japanese art sum: $14.3 millions.
An elegant wooden statue (believed to be 800 years old) of Buddha, bearing additional treasures entombed in its inside: a wood pagoda, a crystal pagoda and a crystal ball on a bronze stand all tied together with a bronze wire, is breathtaking.
The hidden objects represent Buddhist symbols and the plans, if any, for their removals are not being discussed.
The name of the seller is kept secret, but the buyer is Mitsukoshi Ltd., one of Japan’s major department stores.
