For those of you, who lives in San Francisco and Bay Area (or visiting next week), I’d like to remind you, that de Young Museum is presenting it’s annual (24th) event of art and flower arranging, “Bouquets to Art” 2008.

What is it? The show presents floral arrangements, which create allegories between paintings and the flower arrangements, created by participating florists.

For example: a painting depicts a woman, who happens to be a redhead, wearing a long, flowy black dress. The flower arrangement (last year) for this painting was designed as a tall vase, positioned on the slim black column, artfully draped with soft black material; and the vase contained a beautiful bouquet of red and pink roses, pinkish calla lilies and pink carnations, all overflowing the edges of the vase. The effect was stunning: a fleeting image of a slim redhead in a black dress.

The show starts on March 11, 2008 and runs thru March 15, 2008.

Click on the link Bouquets to Art for the information on hours and scheduled lectures of this exquisite, once-a-year exhibition, and also see another example: a painting (I think, it’s Rothko) and the bouquet in front of it, which shows how the florist interpreted this particular abstract.
