Could you loose a job if you break your nose? I am sure it is very painful and unpleasant experience: aesthetically and time and money wise. The hassle of visiting the hospitals, time off work, missing some outdoors activities, and, most important, how will you look afterwards and what it would take financially and emotionally to get your nose back: what a mess (pun intended).
For anyone of us, mere mortals, whose look and health might be affected for a short time, this kind of the accident will leave bad memories and, maybe, scars. But what if your nose is your working equipment?
And what job could it be, you might ask? Actually, it’s something we all do once in a while: wine tasting. Remember? First thing you do is gently swish the wine in a glass and then slowly inhale the complex (hopefully) bouquet of the scents and flavors.
The Associated Press brings to light the case behind (or in front) of the leading European winemaker and tastemaker Ilja Gort, who had his nose insured for $8 million by the Lloyd of London. If this man injures his nose, it may diminish the feeling in his nose, which may lead to a loss of smell. He also will loose the job he loves, the income he enjoys and diminish the level of service he provides to people by doing his job well.
By the way, the insurance policy has some restrictions, too: he is not to engage into a motorcycle rides, he is not allowed boxing, he can’t be a knife thrower’s assistant or a fire-breather. O, and he has to be very careful choosing a barber, so his nose is not to get nicked or scratched. No, I don’t know about diving.
Now, keep in mind, that this is nothing to sneeze at. (If you were to pay through the nose, you would impose your own harsh rules, too).
If you read the story published at msnbc.msn you’ll find out more about the celebrities, such as Marlene Dietrich, America Ferrara and others, who had their famous body parts appraised and insured.
This information was provided to you as reminder: keep your nose out of troubles, your insurance - current, and your lawyer’s phone number - handy.
