Gift Basket is a Gift.
When we say “Gift Basket”, we usually mean a pretty, straw-woven basket, filled with various offerings of food. Why and when do we present a person with a gift(food)basket? Either, when we can’t think of anything else, we are in a hurry or we don’t know this person enough to experiment with more personal gifts.
Is there something to know about gift baskets? Not really, only that they differ in size and the assortment of goods. Pay attention to the items included and try to identify recipient’s taste, not yours. If the intended giftee is sick, or doesn’t drink, what good 2 bottles of wine will do? Same with sweets.
Most larger grocery stores, as well as many department stores, offer a selection of food baskets. You may order very interesting gift baskets via catalogs, by mail. You may create your own by including things you know will be appreciated: fancy food, spirits, nuts, olives and other things.
Now, about other things. Department and specialized cosmetic stores offer a wide variety of non-food baskets. They usually contain toiletries, perfume, creams. Keep in mind, that for many people perfume is a very delicate, personal issue, so don’t forget to include a gift receipt, so the recipient can at least exchange your gift.
One more good thing comes from the gift baskets: they may be used afterward for storing magazines, mail, toys, potato, etc., and available all year round. Choose your baskets thoughtfully.
If you can’t think of anything, when going for a first visit to someone you’d like to impress, buy the best bouquet of the fresh flowers you can find.
