To buy or not to buy?
Many years ago, when a dress code was still inforced everywhere, I read an article in one of the fashion magazines on buying designer clothes. Ever since, every time I face a dilemma of “Buy or not to buy” an expensive article of clothes, I apply the theory, which I’ve learned then.
Here it is:
Imagine, you found a great, classy, flawlessly made, timeless dark designer suit for $1,000.00. You work in a place, where dress code is enforced, or you wear nice clothes everywhere you go, because that’s how you like to express youself. Should you buy it?
Now, imagine, you’ve got a very important meeting and you can rent this suit for $100.00 a day. Will you rent it? Probably, yes. What if you have this meetings once a month, and by changing blouses you’ll always look different and professional? $100.00×12=$1,200.00. It already worth it. Considering, that you may pair a jacket or pants (skirt) with other items in your closet every few days, and wear the suit for a couple of years to work and to party (with a flirty, thin white blouse, or whatever, and right accessories), the investment is definitely worth it. Always look irresistable, confident, in control, have good mood, because you like yourself, isn’t it what we all trying to do?
On the other hand, if you really don’t need it, have nowhere to wear it, but splurge and buy it, you may find a use for it only a couple of times, you’ll regret the decision, never do anything like this again, and may spoil or loose many wonderful future experiences.
From all of the above, I think, we may conclude the following: if you plan to wear the outfit often, it will be a good business decision to invest into a high quality, classic and classy things, which dressed up or down with right accessories will always make you look and feel fabulous.
I do not advocate buying expensive or beyond your means clothes, but a good, carefully though out decision on spending, may be a beginning of a very happy life, with less time spent choosing what to wear and less cluttered closet, too.
P.S. While we are on the subject of clothes, get a few good white blouses. Great with anything and everywhere and makes a good, useful gift, too.
