Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel was born 19 August 1883. (Coco for “a little pet”).
“Chanel died in Paris on 10 January 1971, aged 88, in her private suite at the Hôtel Ritz, and she was buried in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her tombstone is carved with stone lion heads representing her birth sign, Leo.”

Last year Karl Lagerfeld designed special limited edition coin to commemorate her 125th birth anniversary. The coin displays a portrait of Chanel in her little hat and pearl necklace together with a signature of Karl Lagerfeld on one side, and the number 5, as “€5″ symbol for the denomination and the perfume, on the other. The coin is produced in gold, silver and metal.
(The cost and the amount of the coins produced is unclear to me, because various sources quote different numbers).
Coco Chanel’s life was depicted in films and Broadway’s productions.
“She was still working in 1971 when she died. Karl Lagerfeld has been chief designer of Chanel’s fashion house since 1983″.
Known as and for: “Fashion Designer: little black dress, Chanel suit, Chanel jacket”.
She started wearing bell-bottoms, glamorized pea jackets, and showed women of the world the “path to pants”.
Multiple strands jewelries and instantly recognizable accessories, menswear tailored for women, quilted pockets and purses, Chanel No. 5 perfume, comfortable clothes: it’s all Chanel.
Did she have many friends? She certainly was a very influential person at the height of her popularity and had many people around her, but once she said: “My friends, there are no friends.” Was it what she thought, or just something intriguing to say? Who knows…
You may find more quotes from her here: Women History.
She was an exceptionally good (creating a brand) businesswoman and a equally good, talented designer. She had numerous questionable and bad traits about her as well. Nevertheless, she is remembered a genius, who changed the fashion and the lifestyle with it in so many ways, that the influence is still continues, through this day…
