Dream it! Make It! Wear It! is the motto of this coming up soon LA store.

Fashionologyla is an interactive store for girls 7-14(tweens, as in between), who are ready for a unique fashion experience, where they design, implement changes, accessorize and submit a finished product (such as clothes to wear), in a certain style offered by a store and chosen by a tween designer; and then have their creation displayed for the whole store to see on 70″ TV screen. Boys, of course, should not be excluded. There is a reason why we have so many male designers. Who knows, maybe this new business will discover many talents and shape many destinies.

If Elizabeth Wiatt and Jamie Tisch, who created the concept of combining creativity and fashion in such a way, that young designers can see fruits of their labor almost immediately, decide to distribute their software for anybody to buy, practice and mail the design in, it would be a great present for a child away from school, and not only during summer.

I would not be surprised, if the proprietors find themselves fending off a few adult visitors, who wish to try their hand at designing clothes…

My previous post, which features a tutorial on how to read a blog may raise some eyebrows, especially for the younger generation.

The fact is, that most of us, who learned to use Internet later in life, use it only when necessary: Email for working needs and occasional jokes, searching for the illness symptoms, when care enough to research the issue and some newspaper reading, if prompted. Otherwise, we get our paper and magazines subscriptions via paper edition, ask a friend when need an insurance agent and share our hobby interests with already established friends. It doesn’t even occur to us to look on line for other people with similar interests, and when need to talk to someone, we use a telephone: much faster and easier.

The article in CNET News discusses exactly the same issue, except they add a twist: learn it for your children’s benefit.

“Growing Up Online covers a wide range of issues including online safety, with an emphasis on cyberbulling, but for me the most mindblowing concept is thinking about teens living their lives so publicly. Teenagers have always tried on new identities, and had secrets, but now they can continuously share their secrets with everyone in the world but their parents if they wish.”

Since children use Internet all the time, they say and do things, which might call for your closer attention. It means, you need to know how to recognize and access certain programs and what to watch for. This issue is reflected upon in the Frontline’s “Growing Up on Line” magazine.
Click here Kids online to read more.

A story refered to in the following article, is about the on-line predators and what’s being done about it. Read it here Predator, by FBI Special Agent Peter Brust.

Children belong to all kinds of online communities, they have diaries there and say things, which might trigger an alert for an attentive parent. Of course, we’ve learned, that spying on our children is not a good idea, but if you use your knowledge to discern the message you get from your child’s writing wisely, many bad things can be prevented.

Make sure you read this story: Public and Private Life

Explore more here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/kidsonline/inside/.

The purpose of this post is to prompt you to learn at least the basics of your child’s interests on line and the communities, which exist there. And the best way to do it is, of course, to ask your child.
Enjoy your learning and have some bonding with a child at the same time.

P.S. I realize, we are all busy and don’t have much time to read everything, that is recommended to us, but do yourself a favor and at least glance over the these articles. At least save a link to this page and read it in a few sittings.

Many of us use Icicles to beautify our Christmas tree.

We like looking at icicles and curling ribbons. Babies and animals like it, too.
It sparkles, it makes the room festive, bright, happy and very holiday ready.
What are the icicles? It’s a metalized plastic. On the back of the package is the caution: “This product is not digestible. Consumption can cause gastric distress in children and animals”.

How many of you ever read this warning? Why would we? We are old enough to know not to eat this stuff. If we have small children in the house, we’ll watch them, we’ll watch animals, too. Right?
But what if you are busy in a kitchen, just for a minute, when your baby pulls a bright silver thread and stuffs it into his mouth? If they can’t pick up an icicle, they’ll get some tree needles to taste…

What happens when you go to work and leave your cat or dog for a whole day tête-à-têtes with a Christmas tree?

What I am trying to say in this post, is that if you use icicles, make sure your children and animals can’t reach it and that the tree is fresh enough not to drop needles.

Just because we refuse to think of something terrible, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Talk to a doctor or a veterinarian, who can explain you the dangerous nature of these sharp things, which can cut intestines, if swallowed.
